Welcome to Semiahmoo Academy of Music!

Our vision is to provide a high standard of excellence in musical education. In doing so, our highly qualified faculty offer a variety of piano, violin, classical guitar, and flute study options for students of all ages and abilities in the South Surrey / White Rock / Morgan Creek/ Rosemary Heights areas.

Many of our students prefer to study the classics and progress through a series of exams as set by the Royal Conservatory of Music. As our director Cheryl Finn is an examiner for the RCM, we closely align ourselves to the RCM curriculum and prepare students for all levels of exams – Preparatory through to ARCT and Licentiate. We offer classes in Rudiments, History, Harmony, and Analysis, as well as preparation for RCM Piano Pedagogy Certificates. We also offer RCM Smart Start and Preschool classes for young learners.

Other students may prefer to explore piano, violin, or flute in a non-classical setting. This approach can include exposure to Jazz, Boogie, Ragtime and Pop styles. Some students prefer a combination of both classical and non-classical training.

Every student, no matter the goal, will benefit greatly from regularly participating in recitals of which we offer several throughout the year. These range in size from small studio settings to formal public performances. We also offer students the opportunity to participate in any number of music competitions and festivals held each year throughout the lower mainland and Fraser Valley.

The study of music has many benefits which go far beyond simply learning to play an instrument. Improved hand to eye co-ordination, memorization and reading skills are but a few of the rewards offered, not to mention an increase in discipline which forms the basis for all true achievement. Further, recent scientific research seems to indicate a link between the study of music and increased brain development in children.

It is our goal to create a successful experience for all our students and in doing so contribute to their self esteem, confidence and a lifelong love of making music.
